Thank You for Mothers
By Pastor Mike Adams
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! Praise the Lord for giving us a reason to hope and rejoice in our own resurrection someday.
As we move forward in the calendar year, the temperatures are getting warmer and flowers are beginning to bloom in an array of colors! Beauty can be seen in abundance if we are open to it.
One of the best examples of beauty is found in the love a mother has for her children. In the best of circumstances, the pain of childbirth can be erased in moments when a mother sees and feels her child for the first time. With science enlightening us, we learn that some of the cells from mother and child can be found in each other for life! How beautiful is that?!
As mothers and children age, mothers can wonder if they are making a difference in their children’s lives. When their children pass through significant events such as beginning to walk or Kindergarten or Graduation or marriage even, a mother can feel as if they are having less and less control or importance in their child’s life, but as time marches on, they soon can see that either from questions of how from their adult children to seeing how their grandchildren react upon seeing them or hearing their voice, that they are as just important as they always were, in different ways.
Paul encourages Titus (Titus 2:3-4) to see the importance of mothers and grandmothers in their respective roles as molders and shapers in and to the children and families they are in. He also honors Timothy’s mother and grandmother in 2Timothy 1:5 in how he sees and knows how they instilled their faith in Timothy.
As we honor our mothers this month, let us also remember that we can honor their memory if they have led the way to us to heaven as we approach Memorial Day and remember that they too may have given us their all.
Whether they are still with us or have departed this earthly dwelling for a much better place, may we honor and cherish our time with our mothers and grandmothers who have had such an impact in our lives.
Happy’s Mother’s Day
